I think my story started during a difficult period experiencing depression and anxiety. I was stuck with the idea I just had to put up with how I was feeling, my life was very busy at that point and I had a family history of mental illness and as far as I was concerned that was that.
But someone recommended I try some simple mental health interventions that could be incorporated into every day life. I was reluctant as first but tried them anyway only to be amazed at how real the transformation was. And how quicky I began to feel better.
This inspired me; I became fascinated with the idea that our mental health controls everything about us; how we see our lives, our future, our relationships, whether we can function in the workplace. And yet, I realised, we do not look after it. Why wasn’t there the parity with physical health?
Inspired, I quit the industry I was working in, retrained to be a teacher, then qualified in delivering mental health training and never looked back. From 2015 to June 2024 I was the Trainer and then Training Manager at York Mind, delivering hundreds of hours worth of mental well-being workshops to local and national businesses , plus local authorities, Universities, Schools and other charities.
My decision to set up Wider Sky in 2024 completes the journey from a spark of an idea in 2007, via an incredibly rewarding and meaningful nine years at York Mind to finally wanting to go it alone.
I specialise in delivering quality mental health training to a wide range of organisations including businesses, local authorities, etc. I love what I do and invite you to contact me. At Wider Sky we really are friendly, old fashioned-customer focused, positive, helpful and can make a difference in your organisation too. Give us a try!

Mark and I started delivering training together in the early 2010s with Mindfulness. Alongside this, I have over 20 years of teaching experience in a wide range of settings. I have worked with young people and adults with anxiety, low confidence and neurodiversity for the last 15 years. I have taught mindfulness and I have use mindful strategy as the basis of my approach to everyday life. I work in specialist education provision for young adults with additional needs as my main role, with additional training with Wider Sky. Walking in nature is my favourite pastime, particularly when the sun shines.
